The rebate did not expire. It was extended.

That rebate did expire on December 31. The new rebate is $75 in the form of a gift card, not a rebate check.

Rebate expired 12/31/17.

I just ordered one in .308 for $249.99 before rebate. It's listed as $272.83 on the website, but I got an email for the $249 price on the .308 and .30-06. I called them and they said there was a problem with the website for the 2 calibers I mentioned, giving the incorrect $272 price. Free shipping and no CC fee! Sweet!!! Also, on the email, there was a free muzzle brake worth $75 that was included.

Kentucky Gun Co made a mistake with the price. They honored what they had written in the email but they changed the email and the price in the store. They put it back up to $272 and ate the difference for the ones who got the earlier email. If you tried to order it online it would only sell it to you for the real price of $272. If you called and told them that you saw it for $249 they honored it.

So you placed the order by phone?

I ordered on the phone when I was inquiring about the price. There was also no CC fees.

My rebate came through. I couldn’t meet accuracy claims so rifle spent a couple months at the factory. Action came back smoother, but was acceptable before. Haven’t put on paper since return. Anyone found a trigger swap? (I have a good aftermarket spring but better is better.) Anyone try the Boyds stock?

I ordered a Boyd’s stock and it is supposed to arrive tomorrow. The factory stock is light but too flexible and I don’t care for it. I put a $50 DNZ 11120 one pc low mount with a Vortex Crossfire II 4-12x 40 on clearance for $100 from Cabela’s on it. With Hornaday Black 6.5 ammo I was getting the best groups of the different ammo I tried. Anxious to try with the new stock. Kentucky Gun Co shipped quickly.

Submitted rebate in September(no record), resubmitted in December (still no record). Gave up and will buy Savage from now on. Atleast the guns are good and they have never ripped me off.

You submit online or by mail? I submitted 2 rebates and I can check status online and got 2 checks couple weeks ago. Did I forget something?

Not sure what you all are having a problem with, or if you are just a S&W hater, My Rebate came in today. Took less than 4 weeks from TC/S&W ;) I even did it online and mailed nothing in. The Threaded barreled 223 works great with my Phantom suppressor. It is a dead on shooter, the trigger is crisp with a clean break and the vortex scope is clear and holds zero. Best $260 spent on a varmint gun to date.

Sportsman outdoor superstore has the venture, which is the model up from the compass for $305. They also have the venture with a vortex diamondback scope for $415 which is still a really good deal. They have the compass for $299.99 but for five dollars more you can get the venture. I bought eight of the Thompson's and my rebates have been coming in in chunks. I have called the rebate company several times for different things, including me filing them incorrectly and they've been really nice. They made the corrections for me without me having to go through a bunch of stuff. If you have any problems give them a call. I've had really good experiences with the Thompson's and the Savage rebate companies. The Remington rebate, not so much. I even had five of the axis rebates that were postmarked a day late. I called and the lady said just make it attention to her and they've been approved now.

Has anyone gotten updates on their backorders? If you look Woodbury has them cheaper (by $10, spoiled by $20 shipping), but seem to be in stock.

Just shot this rifle and I'm impressed sub 1/2 MOA with factory ammonium. Best gun under $200 hands down

Dat ammonium

Word. Ammonium is hands down one of my top 5 favorite positively charged polyatomic ions, Bruh.

I'm waiting for a backorder, but would like to get my scope rings sorted while I wait.

Can someone who has already received their Compass measure the height of the scope mount compared to the barrel? Or alternately, tell me what scope you have mounted, the specific rings (model and height) you used, and how much clearance over the barrel you have?

That would be a great help, thanks!

At this price you couldn't go wrong to put one of these in the safe. Great budget hunting rifle...a competition long range gun? NO... but a decent deer rifle? You bet! Perfect for beating the brush and chasing down that big buck this hunting season

Great rifle... just make sure not to drop it outta a tree stand and get shot in your ass.

I have purchased 2 of these rifles. I have to say I was really shocked for rifle under $200. I bought a .243 first simply based on the price and features (5R rifling, adjustable trigger, threaded barrel!) but no other data. Sub MOA right out of the gate (and I would only consider myself a casual shooter)! I got mine for like $195 after rebate but there are options out there now that have a scope packaged with the rifle. It was so nice (for the money) I bought a .308 with the Vortex Crossfire II scope for only about $88 more (It's about a $150 scope). Great shooters, I just don't see how you can beat this deal. Good luck!

I have achieved 1 MOA on the 308 and 223 (1/2 moa). Have only made 2 on my 30-06 but I have not the right ammo. You will like it. Can't beat it. Actually you can. It's not wood so... Don't have to worry about much. Best deal.

Ty, The link that you provided takes me to a $400+ rifle and no MIR.

As far as detailed research I haven't done much I like S&W, great features, warranty and yes price. I figured I'd like that better than $200 in my pocket, I'm hoping that it (like the rest of my guns) is more accurate than I am and I'll get another deer this year.

If I went to my LGS and asked for a $200 .308 they would laugh, I haven't laid my hands on this rifle but I like my current .308 so I don't anticipate this will be much different but I'll find out tomorrow.

One last thing if I did find a Winchester XPR for $200 I would have bought it.

0 votes
1 vote

Yes, with rebates, currently it is the cheapest. However the XPR can be had for near the same at $254.
https://gun.deals/product/winchester-xpr-308-win-22-3-rd-synthetic-stock-blued-351-price-match?mobile=true...

Also, the Compass touts superior features in it's 5R rifling, threaded barrel and 5 round mag. By all intents and purposes, the Compass should be the superior rifle.

Calling Ruger this Monday they stated the Ruger American rifle is considered a 2MOA rifle at 100 yards. However, the XPR has the same 1 MOA gaurantee as the Compass. Therefore, both the Ruger and Winchester are excellent comparitive rifles, bracketing both the high end and low end of performance. In fact all the rifles I mentioned in my original post are of the same class.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=PyUaEbHyJ5s...

Comparisons need to be objective and based on features and capabilities of the weapon. The current pricing, though outstanding, is not a stable enough point for comparison.

I am certainly open to your detailed research of these rifles in question, except for the argument based on price alone...

What have you found to be true personally with these particular rifles?

Ty,

I appreciate your input but we are talking about a sub $200 rifle, a quick look the Winchester is $450 & Ruger is $400 I do expect a different level of refinement in a gun that cost twice as much.

Re-Post:

Went to my LGS this morning to handle these, winchester xpr, ruger american, ruger american predator, savage axis, howa 1500 and mossberg's offering in this grade of rifle.
Of all 8 rifles, the T/C was the roughest looking, feeling and operating of them all. The only catagory where I did not feel it came in dead last was trigger. The Howa took the cake there, lots of take up, heavist pull and next to no pressure wall like the other 7.
The Xpr boasts the tightest groupings in a few YT reviews. No one seems to be able to get the T/C to hit that 1 MOA guarantee,...not with any measurable consistentcy anyhow.
For the T/C, I handled the 30.06, 7mm r m, and the .308. The stocks feel cheap and the texture leaves something to be desired. They do however offer less flex than all the other 5 rifles, save the Howa, XPR and Mossberg with the Howa being the most rigid.
The wing safety in a word; sucks. Its awkward to operate, stiff, forces you to break your grip when manipulating it and it's difficult to fully tell when you've switched between the three available positions. The action is nearly of the same feel and quality, maybe a little better, but not by much.
Of the 8 I looked at the Ruger American was the absolute smoothest action, followed closely by the XPR. Both of those guns triggers were the best too. The T/C's was decent, but is adjustable so I suppose that may improve.
The 5R rifling is a big deal, the higher capacity is a bonus and the threaded muzzle pretty much makes this rifle nearly in it's own class (hence why I included the higher priced higher value, Predator).
At $300 these are a great target rifle, at $210 they are a steal. Not a hunter so I can't comment too much on that. However, I think the super awkward safety could make this a no go for shooters looking to be able to react quick and confidently with their weapon in a high pressure shooting situation.
Also, I handled the Ruger and XPR (probably two best guns) at 3 differnt LGSs today and tried to pick the less popular calibers so the actions and triggers werent already smoothed out from being display guns. Testing out these two guns at 3 seperate stores and having similar results each time would make me feel confident in choosing either of those over the T/C, but you will pay more.

Thanks for this useful information. What is it about the 3 pos safety you don't like? Was there no positive click? Also, you gotta admit you don't have any shooting information to support all of this. If the compass shot better than the other two what would fit and finish matter at the end of the day?

I like to remember that any one of these with a modern optic is superior to the finest sniper rifles of WWII, but then again I love that feeling of craftsmanship too.

Just order it from my phone and it(the website)seemed easily navigable. The link brings you to the gun. Click add to cart. Then checkout. I opted for the insurance for 3 bucks and opted out of the scope. They had my FFL on file. They said it should ship within 5-7 days. I will update you guys with any details!

It arrived today. Got two emails from them. 1 saying thanks with review and receipt of order. The other Co rained shipping info. Clicked the link and it was tracked. On time. And faster than expected! Very pleased overall with KYGunCo. I'm not sure how to do the rebate yet. I don't anticipate a problem however. I will update if there is.

As for the rifle, I can't complain. For $200 I have a Slayer in a modern firearm and an excellent chamber. I would like to point out the thumb bolt safety is very uncomfortable. You have to reach for it. Could create bad habits. The bolt feels loose when working it. In it's locked position it is tremendous. The threaded barrel is cool and I'm hopeful for the hearing protection act. U til then, the include a thread cover that looks nice.

Over all 5⭐for KYGunCo and 4.5⭐for T/C Compass

Just bought one, $283.61 for the combo after MIR, the rifle and vortex crossfire scope. You can't beat this deal. This is a solid rifle and I did a lot of research and this looks like a sweet deal for a budget .308 with glass and rings.

So I got one in 30-06, liked it. Got it in .308. liked it more. Now I got one in .223 for like $180 (cheap ammo too). Love them all.

When I try to buy this gun only box I get is notify me when it back in stock. when I put my email address in to notify me when its back in stock I get a web page that says notify me when it's back in stock. Tried this on my computer and my phone.

Kentucky Gun co website sucks so bad. I quit buying guns from them over it. I used to go on there years ago because it was easy to navigate and look at all their guns now it's almost imossible especially if you're trying to do it on your phone. Whoever designed their website should be sued for taking business from them.

Agreed, it's garbage. It took me awhile too and I'm in a technology field. Just have to navigate to the gun through their menu (firearms > rifles > bolt) and search in their for gun, caliber, etc

My gf got one in 556. This thing shoots lasers. She's a beginner for sure and at 100yrds, a Nikon 3-9x scope and a surefire procomp muzzle break she's shooting 1 moa groups. Just took it out shooting again today and my ruger hawkeye in 223 has a hard time grouping as well as her Compass. Were both using the same ammo.
