My first gun at 18 was the predecessor to this: the 702. Just like what GDG50 said, this is not a Savage or Ruger but it’s a good kid size plinker on a summer day. Smooth cycle with open round sights and a decent trigger on the 702 so it should be similar. It’s hard not to blow through a few hundred rounds in one sitting

Thanks for the comparison.

After owning this and the Savage, get the Savage if you want a target bench gun. If you want a cheap 22 for plinking, this 802 is good enough. The 802 is lighter weight for a kid to shoulder easier in the field. The 802 sights are easier for me to acquire but that is irrelevant if you scope it.

With that fugly stock, I thought it was an air rifle

Are there any springs or sears out there to lighten the trigger pull weight on these? If I need a gunsmith this becomes more expensive than a Savage.
