NO WARRANTY. After Bass Pro acquired ownership, they stopped honoring the warranties on Cabela's scopes They are now only covered with a 60-day return for exchange or refund policy. Bass Pro/Cabela's are very "hush-hush" regarding this policy and Do Not address this important issue in their product documentation/information.

i reached out to customer service... be aware:

Thank you for contacting Cabela’s regarding the Cabela's AR riflescope.
We no longer offer the Lifetime Warranty on our products. The AR Riflescope would be warranted against defects in workmanship and materials.

Eye relief is great, better than the Steiner P4xi (which is the best 1-4x available, period). I’ve owned two.

Eye relief was breifly discussed in my original post, just fyi, Taurus.

Tj; With all those discounts sub $90 seems pretty fair wouldn’t you say given the all unbiased praise this ultra budget lpvo has in this thread alone? Buy it. You can always resell it and likely at a profit if it’s not for you.

Great scope, especially for the money. Use it for 3 gun and never had issue with it. Glass is clear, never use the colored reticle and black etching shows up well.

Slow n Steady;

I know they may look similar to the Bushnell AR/AK line due to logo, however these are made by vortex (hence the good glass) in direct partnership with cabelas (or at least they were prior acquistion), just like many of Cabela's instinct line of scopes and the newer more tactical and LR oriented line.

I don't know about the rest of you but ever since Bass Pro bought Cabela's their pricing has not been as good and they hardly ever have sales on anything shooting related any more. I just bought a Burris scope from Natchez for $234 shipped that Cabela's has priced at $359. I bought a Leupold scope last week from optics planet for $164 shipped that Cabela's has priced at $229. Probably why we don't see too many listings from Cabela's lately.

My $200 of Cabelas gift cards that I bought for $160 4 months ago remains untouched. Previous gift cards never lasted more than 6 weeks.
So yeah I agree.

I think you are right. Cabelas seems to be offering less deals since BPS took ownership. I have had three $100 cards (for $240 from SVM) for a while and I burned one of them on this scope. Hopefully this will change as there is a Cabelas right near me which makes store pickup easy (except when it comes to firearms).

Just arrived today. Really sweet to my non-operator eye.
Reticle seems bright but its nighttime and indoors.
PEPR mount seems decent and indeed has one pic rail on top of one of the upper brackets.
Stiff 1-4X adjustment but a cat tail will ease that greatly.
No slop in the wind/elev dials. Decent click but maybe a little spongy with the click. Not a real sharp/snappy sounding click.

Porkman,

Thanks brother, just trying to help others!

Appreciate the additional info too.

As for the logo's yes, they leave something to be desired, that's for sure. Other than rattle can or cleanly wrapping the end marked "AR" with one or two neatly aligned electrical or black athletic tape, I can only think of duracoat, cerakote, or alumi-hide (brownells) as options....

Um, cerakote & other finishes that require cooking the optic at high temps should be avoided entirely. While OK to store in a hot trunk on a sunny day in Death Valley, I strongly doubt these are designed to stand up to (ab)use in a modern kitchen... ;-)

Great write up Ty! Thanks for posting the review and how this stacks up to the higher priced competition. This is the 1st optic of this style that I have had experience with, and I have been impressed so far, but as I said I have have had no comparative experience with the higher end competition.

I bought one a little over a month ago, at its normal price of $149, although I did use 20% off gift cards and got some cashback from active junky. I thought it was worth what I paid for it after initial inspection and 1st range session with it. At this price I just bought another. The only downside is that it is made in China, but it does have the lifetime warranty through cabelas and seems to be well made, at least for the way I use my rifles. I'm no operator or mercenary, nor am I running around buttstock bashing people in the face with my rifles. I mainly shoot from benches at paper targets and I take as good care of my equipment as I can so it will last. This fits my budget and is honestly nicer than I expected it to be.

Just to add to what you wrote, the pepr mount does have a 2 slot pic rail on top of the ring closer to the muzzle end.

My humble non-operator opinion is that the optic and the glass are surprisingly good for the price and the mount is very sturdy and well made although a bit heavy (but maybe they all are this heavy...idk). I absolutely hate the white cabelas logo and giant "AR" on the side though... Is there anything better than black sharpie that anyone can recommend to cover the white with?

hey bud, long time lurker but i made an account just to let you know that non-acetone nail polish remover works just fine on removing the unsightly decals from the scope...if that doesnt work try acetone nail polish remover. should be pretty safe!!

If I recall it has one section of the top of the rings that does pic rail.

Thanks for the link on the cat tail!

Glad I could help. I felt the same, that there is next to nothing online about it, so wanted to help some folks out who might be on the fence.

As for the mount, just to clarify, it's not a Burris branded P.E.P.R., however, I weighed it and compared them up close and they seem similar.

Lastly, I own (and have owned) a few PA optics (1-6x, 1-8x, 6x .22, .308 4-14x and a prism 5x). It may come down to the lower magnification (1-4 on Cabelas vs 1-6 or 1-8 on PA scopes), but the glass seemed just a clear, if not more clear than either the 1-6 or the 1-8 of the PA. Also, this scope is a bit shorter than the 1-6 (most comparable option) and the adjustment for the zoom is definitely smoother. For me, there are few benefits the PA 1-6 offers over this Cabelas 1-4 other than their vastly superior ACSS reticle. The additional 2x mag is noticable but at $269.99 + need a mount/rings (quality, cheap one at no less than $30-$40) then add shipping cost and only a 3 year warranty......going back to what I said up front, tough to beat the value and functionality of this Cabela's 1-4.

Thanks again, good to hear about the glass but I'd imagine that the lower mag of the 1x4 is helping its clarity. If you really think about the PA's can't be magic at this price range so I'm thinking I'd rather have the lifetime warranty. The advantage of the PA reticle will be for naught in this beater AR because its a funky 13" barrel which will funk up the velocity/drop and it's primary role will be under 100yards. OTOH I guess the PA might be brighter for some close in daytime stuff.

I realize it isnt a true Burris PEPR mount. Does it have the mini PIC rail at the top of the rings or is it slick? Im hoping for slick.

Have a cat tail on order for $6 for quick focus adjust.

Although the reticle in design and illumination leaves something to be desired, this is hard to beat for the price point. Factor in online rebate website, store coupons and military discounts and this thing could be had for around $80.

It does have red/green illumination, but both wash out in bright daylight. Of note is it comes with a mount that seems on par with the PEPR or SALT mounts, to include a place to throw on a reflex (if you're the "overkill" type).

Had two of these and loved the eye relief, clarity of glass as well as the zoom and focus adjustments ease and smoothness. The turrets were ok...but capped, so that's nice.

Ultimately, this optic was just fine at around 300yd/m and in as far as our testing was concerned. The reticle does have a version of what looks like "mil-like" wind hold offs as well as a bdc. However, niether seem all that useful in shooting out to 486 yds (and beyond would seem to make things worse).

Although we did return both scopes, mostly because we want more maginifaction, someone budget minded would be well served by this 1-4x. 1x with this reticle and eye relief make it a decent close range choice and the smooth adjusting (decent traction grip) is more than adequete for shooting out to 300 or so yds.

Oh, lastly, it seems very close to a true 1x at the lowest setting, showing minimal magnificattion or image-doubling.

Nice write up. I have found absolutely NOTHING about this scope on the web and so I declined purchase yesterday.

But now I read from you that it includes a PEPR mount and somehow I missed that. Well that's a nice like savings also.

Also I see that Cabelas branded scopes are warrantied for life. I believe the $120 Primary Arms 1x4 is probably better scope glass wise but I'm putting this on a beater/newbie loaner AR and I'm thinking I like the idea of getting fresh replacements whenever it croaks.

Lastly since it has a 90 day no questions refund I'll give it a good beating in the meantime.
