Yep, this is a bit thinner than the 84, but the cost of mags is twice what you'd pay for a a MecGar 84 mag (they apparently don't make them for the 85). Bummer.
Origins? Military surplus (Israeli?), I'm assuming.
I picked up a Model 84F (the same firearm with a 13-round capacity) in near-new condition a few months ago for less than $400. There are still some good ones out there if you can live with the larger grips. I love mine. Keep an eye on Gunwatcher.com, and key in the model you're looking for. I'm not an industry shill (I promise); I just like getting a deal. This is often a great resource for me.
Why do all these cool guns cost so much cabbage? Back in the day (1980s) 100 bucks was a lot of gun! Keep posting slick brothers.
This is the cheapest I have seen the Cheers so far.
The only down side is that mags for this little bugger will run you $42 each + shipping! (direct from Beretta -the only place I can find them)
I would love one of these to go with my Beretta 84f, but the cost of the extra mags killed this for me.
And, I would never own a gun with only one mag.
