I prefer rubber N50 super magnets. Just one 2" square rubber coated magnets will easily hold a pistol firm. Matter of fact, one will hold a fully loaded AR. A magnet is better than this product as the pistol can be placed in numerous positions, a under table holster like this, it's in a fixed position.

For rifles, a couple of them obviously work best. They make some that have holes to make placement much easier when bolting a magnet down for permanent placement, rather than using epoxy.

I used to buy them from Supermagnetman, and still go there for some, but I buy regular super magnets and rubber coat them myself.

As with all super magnets, the bigger they are, the more dangerous they can be. I use dozens of smaller rubber coated magnets for my small AR parts bins. Magnets I also use when smithing, magnets keep small parts from rolling off workbenches and such.
