Don't go cheap on mags unless you want them for range malfunction practice. Just pay a few extra bucks on proven high quality mags. Anyone considering these please do yourself a favor and stick with PMAGS and Lancers with steel feed lips. You'll be glad you did.

I bought 2 of these during our last scare and they were complete shit. FTF all over the place. Put in a PMAG and flawless. If you have to replace the spring and follower to make them decent then your at the price of a PMAG. If you want cheap and consistent then get USGI from Palmetto. The thermold's had FTF's in 3 of my 4 AR's. One of them a M&P 15 Sport if that gives you an idea.

No these are not high quality mags that I would trust my life with BUT for the $5 price tag these are just fine for range day and plinking. I have bought several just to have for those kind of days and really have had no issues with them. Run hundreds if not thousands of rounds through with only a few feed issues here and there. If your on a budget and not a gun snob these will do just fine....just remember if it's life and death have some quality mags on hand ready to go!

Thermelts under fire! Don't bet your life on these! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_ByKwU1NAw...
Watch these fly off the shelves during the next gun grab.

These are good range mags to keep wear and tear off your nice mags, they drop free, they lock back, they function flawlessly, they are decent mags, and I know people who pend $5 on plastic boxes to hold 50rds of ammo, you really cant go wrong with these, I have had some for over 10yrs and love them they still work great, I rally like the 20 rounders, overall I would take these mags over several other "high" end mags, but not magpul of course.

Plastic toy like quality, no anti-tilt etc. I bought a couple cause I had a Thermold mag. coupler and wish I would have just gotten a P-mag instead of two of these. I'm sure the reaction you will get when you open the box will be,," WTH? Are these plastic?!" Like I did.....

These are not Magpul mags. These are not the same $$$ as Magpul mags, and as such these are not the same quality as Magpul mags.

Anyone with a lick of common sense does not expect a product sold for 1/3 the cost to be anywhere near the same quality.

These are not pretty, not high quality, but functional magazines that will help your gun go *bang*. Expectations in excess of that are unreasonable.

People really seem to go nuts about these mags, either trashing them or defending them.
I don't own any. The only Thermold I have are two of the 47 round AK mags and they work just fine. They feel flimsy and I wouldn't use them for anything "serious" but they run fine and have never jammed in my rifle.
They were 10 bucks so I'm happy.

I bought 2 of these with my last SG order just to see how they were. LONG STORY SHORT these are not being used as magazines. They were used as targets for other magazines I bought.

These things are utter peices of shit. I can't believe how crappy they are. Almost makes me think they were originally for airsoft and they decided they could sell them as magazines for real firearms. RUN don't walk. RUN fast and don't look back. If you are looking back make sure you are looking back only to shoot AT these royal peices of plastic shit.

why are they still making these, who is buying them. they are utter shit. 3-4 bucks more get quality.

I bought 4 of these and had no problems but I know a hot gun can make polymer deform and cause problems

Garbage mags. Save your money and spend a few more bucks and get PMAGS
Or USGI mags. Thanks me later.

Not garbage mags--but PMAGs are definitely worth the extra 5 or so bucks.

These are OK but I prefer the aluminum DH mags at PSA for $6.99. I think the DH aluminum's are by far the best value for a dependable metal mag. If you want a different poly mag spend the extra for Pmags or buy the Msars from CDNN when they have them dirt cheap....sometimes $4.99 with a flat rate shipping charge.

If it helps anyone--I have a bunch of these and have had no problems. If you've used magpul before, you can feel there is a difference in weight/durability of the material compared with magpul. There are definitely not built to last for years. These aren't meant for heavy duty use, but they work--at least for my AR.

Only good for idiot cities have gun buybacks and paying 10$+ for each. Better choice for that would be Centerfire Guns 10 Sten mags for $35.

I bought some of these from SG, during the magazine shortage. Lesson learned, with the 30rds the followers tend to jam when your down to your last 3-5 rounds, not worth buying only to fix them, the 20rds seem to work better but I have had feeding issues with them as well. Here is one of the videos I've made on these magazines, where I show the "fix" I've used for these mags. The only reason I spent the time reworking the mag is I already owned them... http://youtu.be/tZykM91BMY0...

Don't expect to fire your last 3-5 rounds out of these.

If you fill these with epoxy, they make excellent lower receiver vice blocks. Of course you could just buy a lower receiver vice block for less than one of these plus the epoxy, so I'm mystified as to where the deal is here.

Oh - you mean use these as *magazines* - like to put cartridges in & shoot them from your weapon & whatnot?
AHHH-HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA *cough* *cough* *cough*.

Whew! That was a good one.

I'm no snob, and I'd proudly use 2 dollar mags all day if they were well made & reliable. But based on extensive personal experience, I wouldn't take a Thermold or ProMag if they were free.

i got a couple of the 20 rounders free a few years ago when cdnn was giving em away. Once i replaced the springs and follower it actually worked well.
Replacing the spring and follower made the free mag cost more than a magpull.

I bought a 10 pack of these (NC version) about 5 months ago. I think they are great for plinking, no problems. I wouldn't trust them for anything else so for the price you can have fun and you will have less wear and tear on your good mags.

I have Thermold 30-round AK mags. They are the biggest POS mags on the planet. Every single one of them are an FTF nightmare. It's rare I can get more than 2-3 rounds to feed successively before failure.

I can't say if their AR mags operate similarly, but I will never buy another Thermold product based upon that experience, and their reputation.

These magazines are truly pieces of total shit. They do not call them Thermelts for nothing.

1 vote

They don't actually call these ones thermelts. The thermelts are the Canadian manufactured mags, which failed because the Canadian government chose to replace the type of plastic with a cheaper type. the NC made ones, like these are GTG.

Mine are out for delivery today. Ordered on 2013-01-09

I got mine 2 weeks ago. They work, but you get what you pay for. My main issue is there is no cut for the top found to ramp on, meaning some FMJ could get suck. The other thing is that this is absolutely not an anti-tilt follower.

I think the Tapco mags might be a better alternative.

Then again, I got 10 functional magazines for ~$60. Until Pmags are back in stock at bulk prices, this will work.

I don't doubt it, but what makes you say this? Did you talk to SG? I've been waiting on some ammo that I ordered on November 1st (WAAAY before any "panic buying" started). Supposed to be a 2 week backorder...2 1/2 MONTHS later and still no ammo. SG is really good at *taking* orders

I talked to them on the phone earlier tonight (Jan 3) and they have received a shipment of these. I ordered mine December 19th, and they told me they would ship in a few days. Wanted to shed some light for those of you in the queue. Also, wanted to give some respect to sportsmans guide, they are good once u get the rep on the phone and they are honest folks who are shipping faster than others in these current times.

PS, if you don't get yours out of this recent shipment, they said the next one wouldn't be until April.

Well, I just got the dreaded backorder "Action Required" notice. Now they are saying January 31st for estimated shipment.... a 4 week bump. I don't think I'll get these if what you said was true about April and the impending legislation on magazines.

Well... mine was supposed to ship 3 days ago. I really don't expect it to ship at all now. I have a feeling it'll just get pushed back again when Jan 31st rolls around.

Just got a shipping confirmation email. Will ship out 2/12. Now if only they could send me my ammo too! Maybe sometime this year.

I ordered mine 10 pk on 12/18, they shipped 12/20, and I received them 12/28.

When I originally ordered, it said they were backordered until 12/31, yet they shipped two days later.

They seem fine, not as nice as my Pmags, but I will use these when plinking to save wear on my Pmags.
