I've been lusting after this pistol for 2 years. It's amazing in the hand.

It was advertised by Wiley Clapp as "Everything you need and nothing you dont"

It's so much more beautiful in person. They really got it right with this one.

In a perfect world where I was made of money, Id buy two. One to shoot and one to collect dust.

I have esentially the same gun. I built up a Colt XSE Lightweight. Replaced the full length Guide rod with an Ed Brown 2 piece GI, removed the Ambi-Safety and use a narrow profile extended thumb safety from Fusion, put on 10-8 sights, and did a nice 4lb trigger job myself. I did some finishing up work internally and added some nice Stabilized wood grips. I probably have $1300 in it, but I prefer the front serrations, and the lightweight aluminum frame. This is the same weight loaded as my Springfield Range Officer is empty so it's a great carry gun with 9 rounds.

Sounds like a nice pistol. My first and only 1911 is a Kimber Tactical Ultra II that I bought specifically for carry. It has the aluminum frame as well and is probably my best shooter when it functions. I have an extraction issue some where. It's an intermittent problem. I'm sure the fix is simple but I don't feel I can depend on it which sucks because when she's running, its a ridiculously dead-on shooter believe it or not. Honestly, it's like the bullets are magnetized to the the target.

My next one will be more traditional. Steel on steel, original barrel bushing, none of that mickey mouse losable tool garbage that comes on the Kimber. I hope my next one is this Wiley Clapp.

I like the simplicity and no frills action of the 70 series.

I also just for once would like to buy a gun that's perfect out of the box. I think this gun is it. However, as odd and great as they are, I would change the grips just to preserve them.

Modify and tone the extractor......check out this article. Probably the best I have seen for just straight to the point stuff. I did a lot of this, and my gun fires every time. Especially the work on the extractor. I found some burs and sharp edges around my firing pin too.

True, but still not as beautiful as $1,500.00 in my pocket and not some other SOB!
