Pretty good deal, should be cheaper because prices have been dropping a lot. This has dropped only $10 from last year when I bought it!

Remember this is only 416 stainless NOT 416R, but the bolt is mpi/hpt inspected.

However you could get a inspected nitride bcg, 416R stainless with free float handguard if you shop around and get lucky! ;)

Just rec'd the version of this upper w/ the magpul MOE forend and MBUS rear sight which was $80 more. Took me about 10 shots to sight it in, front sight had to come up a little bit and the rear sight needed one click and I was right on at 100 yards. With some hastily assembled handloads I was “minute of clay pigeon” which I believe is very acceptable for what the gun is. Going to shoot it again this afternoon with a lightened trigger, better front sight post and some better handloads, will report back.

One word of warning, the charging handle is soft crap. Mine was pretty worn after just hand-racking it a couple dozen times. I'm thinking its 6061 and not 7025. Bought a forged 7025 handle for 15 bucks and all is good.

Just got back, last 5 shot group was 2 5/16", and I think I pulled the last one, best 4 shrinks it to 1 5/8". Mine is the 416R stainless, instead of the 416, dunno how much difference that makes. I got this one for $320: http://palmettostatearmory.com/psa-16-midlength-5-56-nato-1-8-stainless-steel-moe-freedom-upper-with-rear-mbus-bcg-ch-516445358.html... They go in and out of stock quite frequently, I get the impression they don't build very many at once. Might be a better deal if you are going to upgrade the handguard and put a rear sight on it anyways. BTW, previous post should say $70 more and 7075 aluminum, I can't edit the last post.

I'm curious about the handguards. I hated that style when I was in the Marine Corps because they were insanely difficult to remove for cleaning. Are they still a bear to remove? The Palmetto State Armory products I have purchased in the past have always been absolutely top notch. You might consider posting a link for the charging handle unless you got it from PSA as well.

This one includes everything you need. In other words, this is a COMPLETE upper. The $199 version you are talking about doesn't include a bolt, bolt carrier, or charging handle.

I agree with you 100% on the $199 upper; my stainless upper shoots very, very straight.
