The invention of the G2 Research Ammo projectile R.I.P.™ is related to the ability to control the way the projectile reacts as it passes through different mediums by control of the mfg process, geometry and the rate of failure at different zones along its axial length. More particularly but not limited to the ability to take the projectile and predictably have it stay solid in one medium but yet have the exact same projectile predictably react as a fragmenting bullet through a different medium without alteration of the projectile. The geometry at the tip of the projectile has much to do with the way the projectile travels through tissue. It has been long known in the medical industry that a trocar point penetrates the dermis layer more efficiently. Patents for trocars appeared early in the 19th century, although their use dated back possibly thousands of years. It is the use of this geometry at the front end of the projectile that does specific work at the point of entry from one system to the next. Dependent on the medium the projectiles geometry is designed to react differently.

Imagine a Hole saw. The hole saw action that occurs at points of entry into different mediums reduce initial drag which allow the hollow cavity in the center of the projectile to rapidly pack. In the case of plywood the hole saw action cleanly cuts and packs the projectile with a slug that makes it solid thus allowing it to conserve more of its energy. This performance could prove to be very effective for law enforcement that may be in a situation where the target is behind such an obstacle whereas more energy will be carried into the intended target and not lost in the obstacle.

In a fluid the projectile fragments. Due to the trocar geometry of each petal the resulting diameter of the fragmentation pattern is maximized. The trocar tips allow the fragments to swim through tissue / gel with less resistance thus conserving energy. The cross sectional thicknesses and geometries also create a full 180 degree flip halfway along each of the 8 petals path. The resulting shock wave and wound path is maximized.

Seems to me that bonded bullets or copper bullets that retain their weight, expand greatly, and don't fragment-into tiny pieces are what most people desire in self defense these days. The R.I.P. seems to be the opposite. They look mean, but so does a Doberman. As another poster said, the description is laughable. "Patents for trocars date back to the 19th century". Big f'in deal, I think I'd honestly rather use an 18th century soft, lead ball for self defense (seriously). $2 a round, nice. Try Gold Dots, HST's, Golden Sabres, Critical Defense, Ranger's, or many others that cost less and are more effective. New guys out there, do some research before you buy these.

Thank goodness for shootingthebull410 review of this garbage

My rule of thumb is that you cannot trust any review site or reviewer that received a 'review sample'.

Maybe not all the time, but If the reviewer didn't pay for the item being tested, they are all to often indebted to the manufacturer to say nice things about the item being reviewed.

If a product is a lemon and the reviewer discovers that immature green lemons were being squeezed, if he doesn't call out the manufacturer and let them know the lemons are edible, the end user will soon discover their lemonade is sour.

PS, A sucker is born every minute, anyone that buys this is just that.

Complete garbage. Individual flower petals separate and are too little to cause significant damage.

Do they have a version with green paint for armor penetration?

The amount of Complete Bullsh*t these people use in their descriptions is beyond laughable. Its moronic.

" In the case of plywood the hole saw action cleanly cuts and packs the projectile with a slug that makes it solid thus allowing it to conserve more of its energy."

Right, Cap'n G2! OBVIOUSLY when you shoot through a sheet of plywood, it fills the super-mega-ulta-Trocar-Tip with plywood, so when it hits its intended pumpkin (I MEAN, TARGET!) it will UNLEASH THE ULTIMATE POWARRRRR.

If ONLY there was some other type of ammunition that COULD SHOOT THROUGH PLYWOOD.

I remember the day this stuff came out. I was watching a couple of auctions on gunbroker, some people paid over $300.00 for a box of 20 (actual bidding). If I can find the screenshot I'll post it.

I don't understand the negative comments on price. In theory, and in a perfect world, the one magazine you keep loaded with this stuff for self protection will NEVER be fired. Everyone should have that one box of "SHTF" ammo that is hopefully never necessary to use. I bought one.

We aren't buying UltraMax range ammo here. Does anyone seriously need more than one box per person? (Unless you are keeping your Uzi with the 100rd magazine loaded with these!) LOL

Lets hope you don't ever need to use the ammo, because you are not testing it in your weapon to determine its POI, its reliability in feeding, etc. It's highly suggested you cycle as many rounds of your home defense ammo as possible through your weapon to ensure it feeds reliably, cycles the action, and determine where the round will be heading. It's different for every type of ammo, that's why you test! After a couple of hundred rounds, you will have *some* experience, and maybe *some* confidence, in the round performing.

This is a gimmick for people that don't understand real world ballistics and characteristics of wound channels etc. This is a horrible round in theory, worse in reality. Perform the *simple* calculation of muzzle energy, they flat out lied about the rounds characteristics. Anybody that purchases this better be living alone, I would never fire a round I knew would randomly exit the targets body in any direction due to deflections and target density changes. When I fire at a target, I anticipate where the round will enter, where it will exit, and what is behind my target. Now you need to determine what is to the sides of your target, the floor above, below, and all the walls to the side. Should you actually ever fire this round while a court system exists, you will have to plea to the jury your intention was not to maim a target, but to kill the target in self defense. Small temporary wound channels are not effective IMHO. Good luck!

I don't say this to upset anybody, but the level ignorance demonstrated by so many who have posted on this is beyond dangerous! IF you want a dangerous gimmick, buy old sticks of sweating TNT, dig up an old land mine and drive around with it, etc. Just don't give us realistic and educated gun owners a bad name because you saw something k00lz on the net. I only have 7 years of combat medical experience to back up my opinions, along with many years doing the same thing on the private side, but what do I know? Do a little learning, and figure it out for yourself.

If there was an honest single-shot, stop-all round on the market, LEO's would be using it as their standard duty round.

Since we "train with what we shoot, and shoot with what we train" at $2.50 each for gimmick rounds this would be ridiculous.

No thanks. I'll stick with my Speer GD's at $0.60 per round. The most-proven duty round on the face of the planet.

Yep, that's the moral of the story. You can endanger yourself and everyone around you, or use a round known to be effective (there are tons). Why didn't we see so many of these 'new' tacktik0ol shooters go for the shot-shell style rounds i wonder? You can squeeze a lot more projectiles into one of those shells, were talking like 30 projectiles! It's because it isn't effective on anything but a snake or rat at 2 feet.... and at that range you have better choices like a rock or a stick.

Look up the ballistics tests on Youtube or the company website. If I remember correctly, there are 9 or 10 wound channels. The sectional cone of the bullet fractures which somehow improves the initial penetration through barriers. Then the main portion of the bullet punches straight through everything else. The shockwave to the ballistics gel was sick. That being said, I am a cheap bastard. If you want quality, good choice. Quantity, balance other options.

Ya, ive seen the slowmo vids by Richard Ryan. The penetration is on par. The extra wound channels, while being small, are interesting. Im still waiting to see the dimensions of the permanent stretch cavity though. Just didnt look as damaging as an HST, disregarding the channels made by the flechettes. Not sold on them at $2.45/rd until i see a Tnoutdoors9 review.
