Description

Shipping Soon - The Kel-Tec CMR-30 Rifle is chambered for the .22WMR cartridge (22 Magnum). The design is a rifle version of the popular Kel-Tec PMR-30 pistol. The same 30 round magazines are used. The single action trigger mechanism, bolt stop, ambidextrous safety levers, and mag catch are also identical. The CMR-30 rifle includes a collapsible stock and the 16” barrel is threaded 1/2”-28 to accept many different muzzle attachments. The multi-position collapsible stock allows for a short overall length of 22.7” with the stock collapsed, and 30.6” when extended. The long top picatinny rail will accept a multitude of different optics, and the removable under picatinny rail is included. The ambidextrous operating handles are non-reciprocating and latch in the forward position. The stock latch lever is also ambidextrous and located just in front of the trigger guard. An integral sling loop is included near the rear of the grip, on both sides.

The CMR-30 is constructed of hard-coat anodized aluminum for the upper assembly and rails and houses the steel barrel. The collapsible stock is made with aluminum stock rods, and a nylon butt plate. The stock was designed to have a natural cheek weld when extended. The grip, mag catch, safety levers, stock latch, and operating handles are made of glass reinforced nylon (Zytel). The grip houses the frame which is made of aluminum. The bolt assembly houses a captive recoil spring assembly. Magpul® flip-up sights included.

The extensive use of aluminum, and a lock time lower than most bolt action rifles makes the CMR-30 a very accurate rifle.

So exactly where does this product fit in for a POU? Not powerful enough for defense, certainly not designed for hunting, and plinking?... I guess, if you don't care about money on ammo. At least a 9mm carbine can plink affordably and play decent defense at the same time. Better off spending $240 on a Hi Point Carbine and buying extra ammo with the savings. Then you can plink and defend yourself. Probably more reliable too...

Actually, it would be better for self defense than a 9mm carbine which only gains 200 fps over a handgun for around 1400 fps. Only rounds travelling over 2000 fps cause hydrostatic shock damage which a few 22 wmr's do out of a 16" barrel. Size and weight do not always matter if you thoroughly researched ballistics. However, barrier penetration is another story. Most people are misinformed when it comes to the caliber debate. I used to be one of them years ago. Only owned .45 and .357 mag. for hanguns. Now, I only have 9mm's with the right loads. ALL handguns are underpowered however, that's all a little off topic for the 22 wmr.

So you recommend this type gun (.22wmr carbine) over a 9mm carbine for self defense assuming the best self defense ammo on the market is in each gun? Obviously the Keltec is not tested yet, but in general, how do you feel about rimfire reliability versus a centerfire cartridge in a self defense situation?

That's still a ? in the equation. With the right striker, rimfire can be reliable. Only some field testing will tell. Have to wait and see.

No doubt the Keltec is a very cool firearm presented and very unique given its .22wmr chambering and 30 round capacity magazine. With that said I am not convinced that its hydrostatic shock is enough to recommend it over a 9mm carbine, nor is there any cost benefits given the ammo and firearm prices presented. I do like the idea that we should be open minded and considering of cost/benefits considerations, but I'm not very convinced with this one. My guess is that 95 out of 100 buyers will not even consider this gun for the reasons and concerns I have denoted. The other 5% will consider it, but after cost issues and other alternatives available, maybe only 1% will buy it for it's novelty. That may change if your arguments hold water and police and military units find that the .22 wmr carbine is superior to the present 9mm carbines in inventory and use. Then Katy bar the door! Until then, I think it is a really cool novelty for those that like to be "special"....

They've only been talking about this gun coming out for the past 3 years. Original MSRP was supposed to be around $400. All Keltec is doing is driving up their prices so high that no one wants them anymore. I gave up on them. $630 for this? Buy an AR. 22WMR isn't even cheap and available anymore.

Kel-Tec is the most poorly run firearms company in the industry. They can't even meet demand for the existing PMR-30 , and now they divert their limited resources into a stepped-up version! Not to mention, they can't even meet demand for other products (see Glock magazine Sub-2000). It's sad actually because their products have such potential. I wish Ruger would buy them out, fire management, and keep the engineers.

Agree. It's really too bad, because Kel-Tec has brought a lot of innovation to an industry that's largely a sea of conformism (look at the number of companies that do nothing but 1911 or AR clones).

That's an interesting thought about Ruger buying Kel-Tec, since Ruger ends up copying their designs anyway.

KEL-TEC PLANS TO BUILD OVER ONE DOZEN OF THEIR LATEST MODEL.

Wow!! They must have ordered a lot of plastic to make that many!!

I'll keep my 9mm Beretta CX4 Storm. Much cheaper to shoot.

And some very nice 30 round mags to be had!

Nothing wrong with my pmr30...you can have 10 + 1....I'll stick with 28 rounds in a lightweight package...shoots like a tack driver too... I'm sure this rifle will be a precision rifle with ammo easy to carry.

The longer I wait for PMR prices to come down, the less I want it.

Now if Kel-tec could get at least 10 feet up the left side of the supply and demand curve on the PMR... many of us would be happier =P. I remember seeing ads for the pmr (in coyote/desert color) in many print magazines being compared to the weight of an 30 round AR mag. At least you can buy a 30 round AR mag.. lol

That was actually a pretty cool ad, but I could not figure out why they bothered to run it!
