For those considering one of these: the weak point of hi-points are the magazines. So factor that in. The springs in particular. So rotate the mags if you're using this for self defense. I own MANY guns. This said I would carry [and have] for protection when I go out in the rough. These are great: boat, cabin, beater gun.
So for under $200 it's a decent gun. Now there are many guns (most in 9mm) that are smaller & easier to carry. For example PSA dagger 9mm ($299) sccy CPX-2 ($179 hammer fired), or DVG-1 striker fired. ($220)..
Canik TP9 (base models [P99 clones]) for $325 and above. Mossberg Mc2c $300.. Ruger has a couple of 9mm smaller pistols for under $300.
To name a few of many.

Point is: if $200 is your max budget for a pistol, HiPoints m are a option, but there are others worth looking at too. ;)

I,m looking for a good gun for the money. I,ve been doing some checking on this Billing 45, on everyone,s web site they say it,s a great gun with no jamming or miss fireing. And weight,s only 3.5pds compared to the 1911 that weight,s little over 5 pounds. The dealer where I was going to get this hipoint delivered to said that the gun was a terrible gun to even own, much less buy. Can someone please tell me the truth on this gun.

Ummmm. You smoking crack?a 1911 unloaded weighs in at 2.5 lbs. That's for a full sized GI model.
This gun isn't anything I'd want, but it does have a purpose, namely, it's cheap and goes bang. Perfect for throwing in a fishing tackle box, or as a garage gun. Basically something you can use and abuse, and never worry about losing. It's heavy, the ergonomics suck, the trigger isn't that great, but it goes bang and it has a lifetime warranty, so it serves a role.

Here we have again, a Hi-Point 45, the gun world equivalent to mopeds and fat girls. A fun "ride" that you hope nobody sees you on. A "BBH" fetish: Big, Black, Hi-Point!

I think I just bought the last one.:-) (sold out again) just need to buy more mags. any recommendations?

If it functions there is no reason to undermine it, But, usually a product costs 1/6th of what you end up paying for it in the stores. I just know this as fact, you can take my word or not. Again this is in most instances. The remainder goes for Promotion, shipping, packaging, graphics, manuals, markup along the way by manufacturer to distributor to warehouse to store, support staff, tec etc etc.
so this gun probably cost in the neighborhood of 20-25 dollars to make. For me, that is just too little to get the type of quality that I can say I am comfortable with. Too many stamped out parts, and stamped out of what?
I would not be put in a position where my life needed to rely on this gun, to keep me alive. No offense to those who have one.

Hi-Points Are Ugly.....But they, like The venerable Ruger product, are built like tanks and they just run and run and run. I've collected firearms for decades and due to age related issues, I am not a "great" shooter anymore, but I still love collecting and admiring. The Hi-Point is my weapon of choice as a cabin gun, truck and car gun, etc. Better it be stolen rather than any of my Colts, Kimbers, Sigs, etc.. AND: Thier Carbine wanna-be tactical rifle in 9mm or 45acp is a hoot to shoot !! IMHO these are reliable, consistent, and inexpensive. Even lower income folks need to be able to afford to defend themselves.

I owned one plus the carbine to go along with it. Sold both to finance an AR build. I never had a single issue with either. I found that it handled Hornady Critical Defense and Zombie Max ammo without an issue. Those are the only SD loads I tried in it. Added bonus - when you buy one of these it shares magazines with the carbine. (Background - I have a Mossberg 500, a couple of Springfield XD's and a couple of Sig Sauer P238's.)

I own a couple of the 45acp Hi-Point pistols. They are decent pistols IMHO. For those worried about using JHP - don't worry, like any 45 certain brands run better than others. I find the WWB personal defense 230 grain JHP run the best in mine. They can be found at Walmart from time to time. Any hollow point with a more rounded (less abruptly sloped) bullet will feed in these in my experiences.

At that price I still can't justify how hideous it is... and people dare talk bad about Glock's.

In my opinion, Glocks are just as ugly as Hi-Points, with that block of a slide that they have. They're about as plain-looking as you can get.

It's a tool, some people gold plate wrenches I'm told to make them "beautiful", I simply want a affordable tool that works when I need it to.

That pretty much is the definition of a Hi-Point in my real world experiences.

Swaggy G's Firearms has this Hi Point already accessorized with: duct tape grip, magic marker stenciling on the slide and sights mounted on the left or right side of the slide (depending on your gangsta stance). It jumps the price up from $140.99 to $141.99, but I think it's worth it!

1 vote

"PUNK GUN" accessories = Duct Tape Grips are used to not leave any fingerprints on the Firearm.
Magic Marking Stenciling is used to remove any serial numbers for a non-traceable firearm.
Left or Right side sights are used for when you are laying on the ground crying for your mama (because you limp wrist and the first casing hung trying to eject it).
You can still aim the firearm - can't shoot - but you still can aim it.

The penny savings between the two is probably enough to sway a Hi Point purchasers opinion. Ky Gun Co $140.99(if you don't buy insurance) vs. Cheaper Than Dirtbag's $131 + $10 shipping=$141.00. THE SAVINGS ARE MASSIVE!

Another "Cheaper Than Dirt aka Benedict Arnold" post. How soon it's forgotten. This is a deal if you have your own FF License. If you buy from these "turncoats", shipping and FFL transfer fees are greater than buying at your LGS and paying tax. Hi Points aren't exactly hard to find at a price near this one.

Exactly. I think some folks are confused over all the down votes, thinking it's in response to the product. Most are in response to the retailer. Expounding on what you mention for those who are not already aware (and I wrote this in another response below), CTD was the lowest of the low after Sandy Hook. Stopped selling all guns out of fear, then sold at prices more ridiculous than anyone else. What did it for me was the daily "buy our $2000 craptastic junk AR-15 and $100 PMAGS before Congress and President BANS them all!!!" e-mails I got from them. They were manipulative bastards that will never EVER get my business again, even if they are giving guns away. They stand against everything good gun owners stand for and are in the wrong line of retail.

For $141.00 buy it and find out for yourself? I have owned a .40 cal and the only thing it could not handle was a "Limp Wrist". Not having a firm grip would cause it to hang on ejecting a casing. Lets face it if you don't like it plenty of people will take it off your hands. My .40 cal would shoot anything I loaded in the mag. - The only problem people have with this pistol is how something this ugly and heavy can shoot just as accurate as their high dollar pistols. This is also front heavy pistol which makes recoil recovery better than a light weight (Works like a tomahawk when out of bullets). Lays in the drawer just like a high dollar pistol will - Not made to conceal carry! The way I cleaned mine most of the time was spray "PB Blaster" on it - wipe it off and put it away for the next time.If it got really dirty shooting cheap ammo - spray it down and keep shooting - "PB Blaster" would fly out with the casing until excess was gone. I just could not hurt this thing! It is kind of fun to shoot it as fast as you can pull the trigger (.40 cal) and watch it rock in your hands - up from recoil and back down (from heavy tip) on target. The only review that you are interest in is your review - No matter how much I liked my pistol does not mean "Jack S" if you don't like yours !

Yes it is heavy and clunky and ugly. But if you want a easy to clean gun that shoots anything. This is the brand to buy. You will hear it from your friends. But there just jealous because you got the balls to get one lol. And there customer service is hands down the best.

Yup gun snobbery at work. Look guys its a highpoint if you have issues with it then state facts on your experience and help the community out with testimonies on function and application of use.
You all have face book post to post your views on whatever. The point is why is a highpoint bad? Is it function, fit, finish or reliability? Also what parts work and dont on this model? Are you a owner or just a guy that saw them break? Some people use the comments as a quick stop to assist in decision making.
Happy shooting.

I think in this case, some snobbery may be involved, but most of the down votes are in response to the fact this "deal" is from the CTD. CTD was the lowest of the low after Sandy Hook. Stopped selling all guns out of fear, then sold at prices more ridiculous than anyone else. What did it for me was the daily "buy our $2000 craptastic junk AR-15 and $100 PMAGS before Congress and President BANS them all!!!" e-mails I got from them. That's funny that you say that, because all I ever hear are great things about Hi-Point pistols. Sure, they're big and heavy, but they serve their purpose very well. Besides, you can't really complain about the look and feel of them when they cost less than $150 and come with a lifetime warranty.

5 votes

yeah great things about the highpoints, except that they jam on hollowpoints

0 votes
3 votes

Nah, even with a cheapy like this, all you'd need to buy is 100 rounds for feeling out the gun....and you've got yourself a bargain of some home protection. No longer will the excuse work that I don't keep a gun at home because they are too expensive.

2 votes
0 votes

Added bonus, if you run out of bullets, you can bludgeon the other guy to death with your Hi Point, then take his bullets, reload your pistol, and continue on! Damn things are indestructible!

3 votes
0 votes

I can't think of a better home defense gun at three times the price. you can have this gun and half a box of good defensive ammo for under $150. The hi-point 40's & 45's have a good reputation for always going bang (the 9mm hi-points sometimes require a bit of fiddling to get cycling properly).

the snobbery against hi-point is really undeserved - they're an American company with really good customer service & the best warranty out there. And most of their guns go bang reliably.

3 votes
1 vote

Somewhat off topic, but I have the Hi-Point 9mm carbine and I love shooting it. Red Dot, pressure switch laser, front grip, Mag saddle for all less than $300 and it makes me smile. Yea, it's not pretty but so what.

0 votes

This pistol is my guilty pleasure. Sure I love shooting my 1911 and my sexy beauties from Kahr, but sometimes you need to shoot something raw and put it away dirty. This HiPoint fills that need.

It's ugly, heavy and cheap. It screams "ghetto". But it's fun to abuse the crap out of it and treat it like trailer trash because it can take it. So what if it breaks? It only cost $140 and it has a lifetime warranty.
