Description

The new Hellion from Springfield Armory represents a radically unique and innovative approach to firearms design, helping to redefine perceptions of semi-automatic 5.56mm performance. Featuring a “bullpup” configuration where the action is located behind the trigger, the Hellion features an overall length of just 28.25-inches while still possessing a 16” barrel. The Hellion sports ambidextrous controls that work in concert with a reversible case ejection system. The result is a 5.56 that combines portability with potent performance.

  • This rifle isn't as bad as people make it out to be. Sure the trigger may need some getting used to and is a little spongey, but so is the MP5 and countless other firearms that people idolize. The height over bore is not as much of an issue as people make it out to be. Get a low mounted optic or something that isn't a riser size on an AR. No issues with PA LVPOs, just know how the firearm platform works. It would be similar to complaining about an M16A2 patterned rear sight, optic mount height. Thing shoots flat and reloads aren't as complicated as made out to be. People say you have to 'pinch' the bolt release, which is one way of doing it. The other way is simply bumping it back with your hand while doing a reload. One issue I do have with the rifle is the lack of bolt hold if you're needing to clear any form of malfunction. You will have to do similar to an AK and hold the bolt back manually, thankfully the magwell is shallow enough to stick your fingers in there, just be careful. The safety could use an extender, as switching it takes a little getting used to. Other than that, it's a different firearm platform that many are not accustomed to, but with training and familiarity of the firearm will get you proficient enough.

  • With pics… Please someone make a decent aftermarket trigger so I can spend another $500 on this already overpriced bullpup. To think Steyr did a better one in 1977 you’d think 2022 would be way better…

  • Trigger is terrible and not nearly as great as I had hoped. Too bad all the shill reviewers talked it up and I overpaid to get one. Controls are weird and I’m talking from experience opening at least one of every bullpup out there. Some mags don’t fit - Troy being one off the top of my head. The rear cheek riser isn’t adjustable - it only moves up to swap ejection port cover. Makes standard AR sight height optics too high and check weld suffers. Muzzle brake is garbage prong flash hider. You’d really expect more at this price point. They do win worst bullpup trigger ever - long take up, slight wall and then more take up before the mushy break. KelTec wins hands down on the trigger (RFB and RDB). I really expected more…

    I’d rather have a Tavor 7 for that $

    Yeah the X95.

I have access to both. If you are taller and want tight groups at 300 get the Hellion. If you are shorter and accuracy does not matter get the x95.

The Hellion is also a piston driven system, and everything is a tad bit more modular. The x95 has a better bolt catch and release.

Answer to a question nobody asked. You can do decent 80%s all day long for $400.

You’re right.but this is a whole different class than 80% AR-15s. It’s hard to get a bullpup under 1700 even buy a different company like IWI.Desert tech and keltec.

Got mine for $1875 out the door...

Such a disappointment and way overpriced. Wins worst bullpup trigger ever. Bolt release is the least of your worries - no bolt hold open without an empty mag. Sights are decent but can’t stress enough these aren’t worth the money. I wanted to try the VHS-2 when they first hit and was excited to see them imported. All the reviewers praised it but it’s nowhere near great.

These will never hit $1000-$1200... maybe $1600-$1700

Springfield partnered with H.S.Produkt of Croatia to import the VHS-2 “HELLION” used by the Croatian armed forces.

I'll wait a year or so and let the "new car" prices drop down a bit. It'll be on sale next year for $1000-$1200

No way it will drop that low. Maybe $1700 - $1750, $1650 eventually. Its an import bullpup... Suggest look at the tavor from a few years ago as a predictor model for what will happen with prices.

Any word on after-market USA trigger mods yet? Ive read the trigger's kinda mediocre even by bulpup standards.

$2000 for 5.56 rifle?? I mean its cool and all that but NO WAY, from what I'm seeing in comments its another company's gun with Springfield's name, The HELLCAT is about the only thing I like from them that's worth the money.

The Hellcat is made by the same company that makes the Hellion. Springfield only makes 1911s M1a and HiPowers. Modern designs are made in Croatia by HS Produkt.

It’s a repackaged domestic version of the Croatian built HS Produkt VHS. HS Produkt also makes Springfield’s entire XD/XDm line of pistols.

Can't seem to get a handle on this one, doesn't tell me where the Grip Zone is.

Does Springfield get 1000 bucks just cause they put their name on a gun they don't make?

Yes I don't like Springfield as well. And I don't know their profit margin.
But the MSRP is = X95 so this is just how market works.
As much as I don't like paying them money. VHS-2 was one of my dream bullpups, I even told my friend last year that I would be extremely happy to see it come to the US even in the next 10years.
Sorry, just gotta have this one, and maybe the VHS-D2 if that ever shows up.
    Not from this "deal" tho.

Backorder w/ no ETA and only 1% off MSRP isn't really a deal.
