Kinda sorta is. A 9mm carbine any way you slice it is more or less a "fun" gun or a home defense weapon. I like this gun, but I'm not so sure I like it that much more than a Gen 2 2k.

I did just look up Colt 9mm ARs. They are hundreds $ more than the Olympic. I'm confused because I also have an Octane 9 that would make any of these extra cool.

Oly is good to go. They just get a bad rep due to the 7.62x39 steel core ban, which many accuse Olympic of causing when they introduced the 7.62x39 version of their OA-93 back in the early '90s.

Just like any AR manufactuer, you'll find some folks who absolutely love them, and a few who talk smack, and a bunch with NO experience on them, who swear they are junk.

The OA-93 is a neat design, and they also pioneered the pigtail gas tube for shorty barrels (to assist with timing/cycling).

The SS 7.5" Olympic barrels are very nice!!! Oly is typically priced much higher for some reason.

I'm very interested in a 9MM AR to use as a host for my Octane 9. I've always heard positive reviews on Olympic Arms. But gee whiz those skinny 9MM mags IMHO look silly. And I have a bunch of 9MM Glock Magazines. I have seen 9MM mags that look like standard AR mags tho, but then the cost adds up.

I've seen these typically for $1,000. Although this one comes with zero mags. Maybe it's not much of a deal.

A 9mm rifle that takes glock mags for under a grand? But does it fold in half!?

Sweeet...wonder if it uses crappy Asian 33 rd mags...anyone tried KCI mags in this just for curiosity sake?

I bought a used one at a gunshow last year for $650. I've shot about 300 rounds through it with Zero problems .

Anybody own one that can confirm the dependability of this rifle or Olympic Arms in general?

This costs 3 times what I paid for my Sub2k before the moron-a-thon. Truth be told, it's nothing more than a cheaply manufactured, plastic range toy, however mine has run 100% flawless with all factory Glock mags. It's as accurate as I'd expect 9mm out of a 16" barrel to be, and just like every other rifle out there, is no better than it's cartridge. Paying 3x the cost for the same outcome is a sure sign of incestuous breeding.

While the Sub2k's performance is tough to beat for 300 bucks, it still doesn't make the rifle worth a penny more. That's why I wonder if this rifle is actually worth the money. Because they're both 9mm carbines, ballistic capability is going to be near identical. Advantages would seem mostly aesthetic, per usual in the AR industry as pimping ones gun with Chinese shat is all the rage these days.

So a Sig Sauer doesn't offer anymore than a Highpoint? Ok.

I have an Olympic Arms Plinker AR15 that I bought new in 2007, I have nothing but good to say about it. I have 2-3 thousand rounds through it and have not had any issues. I am very impressed by the quality of the rifle that I got from them.

I also have a sub2k, and like it. I payed more like $450 for mine, it is a totally different weapon. The sub2k is a foldable, compact carbine, in my mind it isn't even in the same category as an AR style 9 mm carbine.
