Remington Arms was awarded a contract by the US Army to improve M24 Sniper Weapon. The new M24E1 will get a complete new stock design, new scope and a new suppressor. Remington will upgrade up to 3600 M24 snipers for a price of 28.2 million dollars. Remington has manufactured the M24 sniper rifle for 22 years, producing nearly 15,000 rifles.

Las Vegas, Shot Show - We had a chance to talk to Armscor (Rock Island) representatives and inquired about the XT22 and MIG 22. They had one of each on display and they were nice enough to let us handle them and take some pictures. Supposedly, they are ready to ship and we can expect them right after the Shot Show. However, they did mention that the price will be higher than the other 1911 22LR handguns on the market, since it is not a pot metal handgun like others. It will also be possible to convert it to 45 ACP. We did find another interesting model, 1911 MicroMag 22 TCM.

American Tactical Imports (ATI) had a significant amount of guns on display. There were plenty of different 1911 models, 1911 in 22 LR models, including the complete line-up of models produced in Turkey (FS9, C45, FS40, HP9 and many more). One thing that really caught our attention was a Glock look-a-like version in 22 LR (Very similiar to ISSC M22). It was a really early model, and it does not look like it will hit production any time soon and a ATI's representative confirmed this. See attached pictures.

Rumors were that Kel-Tec would finally announce the release date and MSRP for the RMR-30 carbine rifle at the Shot Show, but unfortunately this did not happen. They did have a non working display model available for those that were interested in this rifle. Knowing that the extremely popular PMR-30 production is finally at full capacity, we are hoping that the RMR-30 will hit production before the next Shot Show early next year. The RMR-30 has the same pistol grip and hybrid blowback/locked-breech action as the PMR-30 and adds a very practical collapsible stock.

As we expected, things were crazy at the Shot Show in Las Vegas. One of the busiest exhibitors booths belonged to Kel-Tec. We couldn't wait to get a hold of the new KSG Dual Tube Shotgun and were pretty surprised to see 4 fully functional shotguns being handled by many visitors. Wall Street Journal has an article about the future service weapons for the US Army. M16 and M4 have been in service for almost 50 years and US Army is looking for a replacement. Reasons quoted were relatively short range, lethality of the round and raising number of complaints about jamming and overheating M4s. Some of the successors mentioned were Heckler & Koch HK416, FN Herstal Mk16 Special Operations Combat Assault Rifle and Heckler & Koch XM8. New for For 2011, Sig Sauer is offering several variants to its tactical platforms. Leading the way is the new SIG556 Russian, chambered for the widely used 7.62 x 39mm caliber. Using AK-type magazines, the shooter now has a more potent round for small to medium game. The SIG556R features a distinctive folding and telescopic stock, and an M1913 rail for accessory attachment. The 16” barrel features four-groove rifling and a twist rate of 1:9.5”. At its full extension, the SIG556R measures 36” but can fold to 26”, making it ideal for situations where maximum maneuverability is required.

This is a Bolt-Action, magazine fed 20mm Ultra Long Range Sniper with a effective range of 2,000 yards to a full 3,000 yards (and maybe 3,500 yards). It fires 20×102mm projectiles (79 caliber) using modern computerized optics. the Mag-Fed 20mm can be effectively used for anti-materiel and counter-sniping out to well beyond .50 BMG range. Why is that significant? Enemy combatants might have access to .50 BMG or similar sniper rifles, and only a 20mm weapon can outrange and dominate that kind of threat.

The 12-pound, 29-inch XM-25 can fire 25mm airbursting rounds up to 500 meters (546 yards) for a precision target and 700 meters (765 yards) when firing on an area. As each microchip-equipped round is fired, it counts the number of rotations it makes and then explodes when it reaches the target distance. A laser range finder on the weapon lets troops check how far targets are. For instance, a soldier can sight the distance to a building protecting enemies, add two meters to that, and then fire the round through a window so it explodes inside.

"GFAS (Ground Fire Acquisition System) detects ground fire. It allows us to take information about incoming fire, get our sensors on it and identify and prosecute ground targets," said Maj. PMR-30 Ammo Recommendations Update 07-11-2011 - We've had a lot of questions come in regarding possible new ammunition recommendations in response to the updated barrel design. The overall list of recommended ammunition hasn't really changed, however there is something we feel is worth noting. After extensive testing with various ammunition we have concluded that all remaining key-holing issues have been isolated to one particular brand and weight of ammunition. Unfortunately this seems to be the most common and available ammunition: CCI Maxi-Mag 40gr.
