John Wesley Hardin's career as a gunfighter and an outlaw began at age 15 and lasted until his death. Over the course of his life, Hardin was frequently in trouble with the law and even had a few run-ins with legendary lawman Wild Bill Hickok. During his many shootouts, Hardin was known to use a Schofield No. 3 Revolver, a popular handgun of the time that could be quickly reloaded thanks to it's top-break design. Hardin used his Schofield No. 3 to great effect during a gunfight against Deputy Webb in Comanche Texas.

Item Number: 110240 True to the originals, Uberti Top Break Revolvers come in 3 models, including the Russian Model with Cyrillic barrel stampings. Major George Schofield designed the Top Break as a cavalry pistol. Its efficient, break-open design could be operated with one hand. That made it easy to eject the spent cartridges and reload while on horseback. It was the Russian government that truly embraced the new side arm. The Czar ordered 41,000 Top Breaks. Those had a modified grip design, lanyard ring, and a distinctive trigger spur. Features Overall Length: 10.8in

Regarded as Colt's perfection of the cap & ball revolver, the 1860 Army was designed around the lightweight frame of the 1851 Navy, but chambered for the more powerful .44-caliber ball. The first models featured fluted cylinders, while later models incorporated a belted cylinder for greater strength. Another improvement was the improved "creeping" loading lever that increased leverage and provided for easier loading. Over 129,000 were issued to Union troops during the Civil War, and the 1860 Army is still considered perhaps the ultimate combat handgun of the percussion era.

In 1873, Colt’s single-action Army (SAA) revolver became the Army’s standard sidearm. Cavalry troopers were armed with the new revolvers. Lawmen and outlaws alike were quick to adopt the handy new 6-shooter which earned the nickname “Peacemaker.” The single-action Army was most widely produced with a color case-hardened frame and blued barrel. Meanwhile, a nickel-plated version was issued to Indian scouts. And a bright charcoal blue finish was available from the factory. But with years of use, the old 6-guns took on a well-handled soft gray patina.
