The bolt-action Savage Arms Model 110 rifle has been manufactured for many years. Over time, it has received several upgrades and changes. The Model 110 was created to provide hunters with a strong, effective, lightweight, and reasonably priced rifle. It was initially designed for .30-06 Springfield and .270 Winchester ammo, but other calibers were added in years to come. Savage redesigned the short-action Model 110 in 1998 and implemented a new model numbering system to distinguish short-action models from long-action models. In contrast to the long-action Model 110, the short-action Model 110 was renamed the Model 10. The Model 110 serves as the base for the complete range of Savage centerfire bolt-action rifles, including the Stevens Model 200 and the Models 11/111, 12, 14/114, 16/116, and 210 bolt-action shotguns. To meet the demands of most shooters, the series is offered in a wide range of chamberings, from .204 Ruger to .338 Winchester Magnum. The size of the action is the primary distinction between the Savage Model 110 and Model 10. The Model 10 is constructed with a short action, whilst the Model 110 is constructed with a long action, which affects the length of cartridges that each rifle may accept. The Model 110's long action enables it to fire larger rounds, such as .30-06 Springfield or .300 Winchester Magnum, suitable for big game hunting. On the opposite, the Model 10's short action is made to fit shorter cartridges like the .308 Winchester or .223 Remington. Short-action rifles are more suited for situations requiring agility and simplicity of use, including hunting in difficult terrain or competition shooting, because they are smaller and lighter. Each of the Savage Model 110 and Model 10's many sub-models has special characteristics and intended uses. In terms of their unique features, stock choices, barrel lengths, and other characteristics, these sub-models further distinguish the rifles.
