FEATURES
Palmetto State Armory is proud to announce the long-awaited release of the JAKL Rifle chambered in 5.56 NATO! This platform is built around a 6105 monolithic upper receiver designed to be compatible with any Mil-Spec AR-15 lower receiver. The PSA JAKL offers a buffer system that is fully captured in the upper receiver, shortening the firearm's overall length. Completed with a Pin & Weld JMAC Customs GFHCE-28-S-KM Muzzle Device Pin & Weld, F5 MFG Modular Stock System, Magpul SL Carbine Stock which allows for a side-folding Stock, and PSA Enhanced Polished Trigger fire control group. Jakl finished in an Olive Drab Green Cerakote Coating.
The PSA JAKL features a long-stroke piston design with a Carpenter 158 bolt and 4340 carrier that are an AK/AR hybrid. Our side charging handle is ambidextrous, allowing the user to change positions to the left or right side of the receiver without the use of tools. Equipped with a toolless 8-position gas block, this feature offers the ability to quickly adjust your gas block by hand when needed. Field stripping and removal of the JAKL carrier, recoil assembly, and sled assembly can all be done without tools for effortless cleaning.

I get that they’re trying to keep the price low, but simply adding an FN barrel to this design would make it significantly more appealing to most who would spend this much.

that would add 200 to the cost, and since crucible arms wants 1800 for their similar product and they use a bear creek arsenal (!) barrel, i'm not sure psa needs to just yet

Good market assessment.

But Cru Arms Templar isn’t their biggest competitor - that’s a platform solving a problem temporarily for the Canadian firearms community.

The CZ Bren 2 and AR-180 platforms (Brownell’s, SIGs) are the primary competition in this feature set. PSA would benefit from finding a way to make their billet Sabre ambi lower work with the JAKL upper, adding the CHF barrel, and then charging $1600-$1700. That’s still in the territory of the Bren 2 and offers way more from a factory rifle (aside from pedigree and military contracts), and still comes in WAY cheaper than a SIG or SCAR 16s.

Good thinking. I guess I don't see PSA anywhere near competing with the might of any international military arms manufacturer like CZ, SIG, FN, their hundreds of years of expertise, name recognition, resale value, etc., all of whom have military grade products which are either unobtanium or unreachable in comparison, but I do see PSA providing tons of cheap semi-autos for the lower to middle class in the US home-owner, gun-mechanic, and DTOM market. In my mind the Brownells and Cru-Arms products appear closer to PSA in the folding piston platform in that regard. GunProDeals barrage of advertising brought the CruArms product immediately to mind. I agree, though, that with PSA's current financial power they need to aggressively compete with more for less, and hopefully aid the legal battles against the govt. that is gutting their market.
